FREE 30 Minute Initial Consultation
During your consultation you will have the opportunity to describe the challenges you are facing with the school district. This is also a time for you to learn about my services and decide if you wish to hire me to advocate for your child.
If I do not feel that I am able to assist you, I will refer you to additional resources that might be useful depending on your circumstances. If I feel your situation requires a Special Education Attorney, or in some cases a Civil Rights Attorney, I will refer you accordingly.
All documents related to the student's education will be compiled, reviewed and organized. (IEP's, Evaluations, Recommendations, Progress Notes, Reports, Correspondence between parents and school district, etc) If necessary, and with parental authorization, I will contact the School District to acquire any additional records or documentation to complete the student's file. All documents will be scanned and meticulously organized.
It is extremely important to have all of the necessary documents available and in order to effectively advocate for your child's educational requirements.
To assist parents with document organization, I provide all clients with a free Flash Drive containing all student records. This will not only help you to advocate for your child in the future, but it will also save a great deal of time and money if it becomes necessary to pursue legal action.
When the Record Review is completed, you will receive both your original documents and a Flash Drive with all of the records scanned and categorized.
My role, as your child's Special Education Advocate, is to help you maximize the resources available to assist your child. My goal is to assist you in the process of obtaining appropriate services and/or accommodations that meet your child's unique needs. I can explain the options available (both public and private). I am also available to help you navigate the IEP process and attend IEP meetings to advocate for your child.
Individualized Education Program (IEP)
This is a written statement of the educational program designed to meet a child's individual needs. Every child who receives special education services must have an IEP. To obtain an IEP your child first must be evaluated to determine eligibility.
I am available to help parents through the process of requesting and obtaining an IEP that is appropriate for their child's educational needs.
504: Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Section 504 is an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met. This typically means that accommodations must be made for the disabled student to receive the educational benefits for which their non-disabled peers are entitled.
If your child is in need of accommodations to access their education, I am available to assist you in obtaining those accommodations.
Students with disabilities have unique needs and face many different challenges. Often the biggest obstacle parents face is finding trusted resources to appropriately address their child's individual requirements.
I maintain up-to-date information, as well as reviews from other families for a myriad of services to support disabled students.
Whether you are looking for a Neuropsychological Assessment, a Special Education Attorney, or driving lessons for a teenager with Asperger's Syndrome -- chances are, I have a contact for you!
I encourage other families to share information on exceptional providers, physicians, attorneys, and community resources to help other families.
Please feel free to ask for referrals!
It is important for you to understand that I am not an attorney. I am a Special Education Advocate. While I am familiar with special education laws; the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), New Jersey Administrative Code for Special Education (N.J.A.C. 6A:14) and Parental Rights in Special Education (P.R.I.S.E.) - you will need to hire an attorney if you wish to file a Due Process Claim. I have worked with several attorneys that are experts in special education law and if it becomes necessary for you to pursue legal action, I will provide you with a complete referral package to expedite the process.
